Case Study: Enhanced Glazing Safety at a Major International Airport

Client: Terminals 2 & 3, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Station

Challenge: Glass containment and public safety enhancement

Overview

Filmtek Data Solutions was engaged to enhance the safety of glazing installations at one of Asia’s busiest transportation hubs—a major international airport. This critical project focused on mitigating risks associated with spontaneous glass breakage within the airport’s MRT-connected terminals.

Challenge

Modern airports must uphold stringent safety standards to protect travelers, staff, and infrastructure from all types of hazards – including spontaneous toughened glass failures caused by nickel-sulphide inclusions. The client required a non-intrusive yet robust solution that could secure over 10,000 square meters of glass across both internal and external environments, all without disrupting 24/7 airport operations.

Solution

FDS deployed its proprietary FT800 high-tensile film paired with a custom-engineered bolted anchoring system, forming a comprehensive Glass Containment System. Prior to implementation, rigorous on-site testing was conducted to validate performance under simulated breakage scenarios.

Outcome

This project reinforces Filmtek’s capability to deliver uncompromising safety solutions in live, high-security environments.
